The European Union could “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it deems “unwarranted” visa bans imposed by the US against five European individuals working on fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official stated.

EU Officials Condemn US Action as ‘Coercion’

European leaders including the French president accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans were placed on figures who have been at the heart of efforts to introduce legislation governing American tech companies.

“For too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to pressure American platforms to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
